BOGO CITY, Cebu, February 26, 2018 – Senator Risa Hontiveros recently led the groundbreaking ceremony of four new buildings for the Cebu Provincial Hospital – Bogo City (CPH-Bogo City).

The 230-million peso project is funded by Senators Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, Loren Legarda, and Sonny Angara with counterpart funding from the Department of Health.

The funding from the Senators was secured through Provincial Board Resolution authored by Provincial Board Member Horacio ‘Raci’ Franco.

The buildings will increase the hospital’s current bed capacity from 75 to 200 and is expected to improve the facilities and services to spare the residents in Northern Cebu from going to Cebu City for medical examination and treatment.

“This hospital that we broke ground today is more than a collection of objects, it is the product of genuine partnership and a true commitment to the health and welfare of the community by the local and national governments,” Hontiveros said.

“What usually happens when we receive a request for funding, it’s a request to upgrade the structure without saying anything about the equipment or the staffing; the tragic result is a white elephant, a hollow structure with nothing in it.” But in the case of CPH-Bogo City, the request assured that “if funds were given, the Provincial Government of Cebu would be able to provide staffing and equipment for the upgraded hospital.”

With Sen. Hontiveros during the groundbreaking were Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Bogo City Mayor Carlo Martinez, and local leaders of neighboring municipalities.

“The City of Bogo wants to share our heartfelt thank you to all those responsible for making this project a reality. When I took office, this is one of the missions that my father left behind, for us to find a way to develop the hospital here in Bogo. This means a lot to us that this dream is starting to take shape”, the City Mayor said in a speech.

He also shared that the city’s ambulances usually travel 4 times a day to transfer patients to hospitals that are in Cebu City because CPH-Bogo could not accommodate some patients due to its limited facilities.

“This is very timely and we here at the City of Bogo are very happy because this upgrade will not only help more Bogohanons but as well as our neighboring municipalities and even islands like Bantayan, Kinatarkan, and even Masbate “, he added.
