Bogo City, Cebu, January 7, 2019 – A total of 7,213 students in Bogo City benefited from the Drug Awareness and Prevention Education Seminar or Dr. APES initiated by the Rehabilitation and Reintegration (ReRe) Committee of the City of Bogo. 5,153 of the beneficiaries are elementary pupils while another 2,144 come from the private and ublic high schools.

Vice-Mayor Mayel Martinez, ReRe Chair, personally led a team composed of nurses from the City Health Office, police officers and drug surrenderers turned anti-drug advocates in raising awareness regarding the dangers and negative consequences of illegal drugs.

The team discussed the physical and social effects of illegal drug use and to better illustrate the ill effects of illegal drugs, former drug dependents shared their personal story on drug addiction.

Dr. APES has been conducted to 27 elementary schools, 6 private high schools, and 12 public high schools.

Dr. APES is part of the holistic effort of the City of Bogo to maintain its status as a drug-cleared city. In July of 2016, all of Bogo’s 29 barangays were declared as drug-cleared by the Oversight Committee headed by PDEA 7 Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz. It was the first city in region to be declared as such and only the second in the whole country.

Dr. APES was launched in August of 2017 will be observed annually in the City starting every June of the year.
