If some barangay in City of Bogo, Cebu have been named for their locations, this barangay had been naed for its shape.

It was learned that for some length of time, the very prominent landmark in this barangay was the almost perfectly rounded mountain which is believed to be that on which the former Human Settlement Building, now Bogo Educational and Cultural Center, sits.

During that length of time the residents of the barangay usually refer to the rounded mountain when indicating their destination. They call the mountain in Cebuano as “Bungtod nga Malingin” which in English “The Round Mountain”. The “Bungtod nga Malingin” for convenience and some time in 1938 the name “MALINGIN” was officially declared as the name of this barangay.
